Blu-ray Disc is the ultimate next generation
optical packaged media format, offering the following key
advantages:
- Large capacity (25 GB single layer –
50 GB dual layer) – with over 5 times the amount of
content possible with current DVDs, particularly well
suited for high definition feature films with extended
levels of interactive features.
- Pristine picture quality with full
1080p high definition resolution (1920 x 1080p)
- Best audio possible with crystal
clear master quality audio via high definition audio
codecs (it can be better than theater sound), up to 7.1
channels of audio
- Hardware is backward compatible with
DVDs, allowing continued enjoyment of existing DVD
libraries
- Robustness of Disc – new
breakthroughs in hard coating technologies mean that Blu-ray
Disc offers the strongest resistance to scratches and
finger prints on a bare disc the same size as existing
CD and DVD

Blue Ray News
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has
announced that they will bring the Will Smith drama 'Seven Pounds' to
Blu-ray on March 17th, day-and-date with the DVD release. Sony has put
this film on the fast track to home video being that it was released in
theaters only a few weeks ago. Video will be presented in 2.40:1 1080p
AVC accompanied by a 5.1 Dolby TrueHD soundtrack
The first announcements are starting to
come out of CES 2009, and ezGear has announced that they release their
first Blu-ray Disc player, the BluCobra EZ3000. This BonusView Blu-ray
player supports many of the same features as more expensive players,
except at a much lower price. Besides supporting Blu-ray and DVD video
formats, the player also supports SACD, a welcome addition for
audiophiles
Warner Brothers have decided to go
Blu Ray
Exclusive later this year. They will continue to release titles on DVD
and Blu
Ray, with HD
DVD following a short while later, until May 2008, upon which time they
will only release DVD and
Blu Ray.
As Warner were supporting both
HD
formats, and have chosen to go with
Blu Ray,
then this is likely to be very bad news to the
HD DVD
camp
